Car mechanic Mercy Thompson has always known there was something different about her, and not just the way she can make a VW engine sit up and beg. Mercy is a shapeshifter, a talent she inherited from her long-gone father. She’s never known any others of her kind. Until now.

An evil is stirring in the depths of the Columbia River—one that her father’s people may know something about. And to have any hope of surviving, Mercy and her mate, the Alpha werewolf Adam, will need their help…

Mercy never does anything the easy way. Even though she tries really hard to stay out of trouble after her previous encounters with Vampires, Witches, Faeries alike, it seems trouble is always running after her. Catching up to her. Her wedding and honeymoon with hottie and Alpha werewolf, Adam, is no exception. Something is terribly wrong with the river next to their camp site, and it seems that once again, Mercy will find herself waist deep in big, wet trouble.

I LOVE the Mercy Thompson series, and even though River Marked wasn’t as action packed as the previous ones (don’t get me wrong, there’s still plenty of action, but it’s not the element that stood out for me in this one), I really liked it! The sixth novel in this series is a call back to Mercy’s roots. Adam and her stumbled into a bunch of Native American at their camp ground and they will shed light on Mercy’s origins. She’ll learn more about their myths and legends, about walkers (or Avatar as they call ‘em) origins and her father. It was extremely interesting to be completely submerged in a entirely different culture, and witness their rituals.

As the majority of the action happens on the banks of the Columbia River, we don’t get to see much of the secondary characters, except for Adam of course. The couple is stable as rock and they will need that strength to overcome what destiny as once more thrown at them… in the form of a fae vision. Adam was specially challenged this time around, and seeing him deal with was special.

Patricia kept a fast pace, as usual, but built-up the tension with a crescendo. Even though there is a big battle, I felt like the whole purpose of this book was self-discovery. I believe it was the perfect timing of Mercy to finally get a better feel of where she came from, and I’m under the impression it will have a big impact on her in the following encounters. I’m convinced this book is a turning point in the series.

If you haven’t had the chance to pick this series, you really need to. It’s one of the best Urban Fantasy series out there. With a strong but flawed female lead, sexy powerful males, and a wide variety of amazing secondary characters, Mercy Thompson series as everything to please it’s audience!
