Crescent Moon Press authors were really excited by the Paranormal Spring Break and eight (8) of them wanted to participate! To keep it manageable, authors were paired two by two an interviews each other! On this post, you’ll be able to see: Rachel Firasek & Traci Bell.
Rachel Firasek’s Interview with Traci Bell
When divorced teacher Cassie Miller dreamt about meeting her soul mate, her happily-ever-after didn't include threats of abduction to a parallel world to help him save his people from imminent destruction.
Alexos de Werner, exiled prince of a land now under Republican rule, is searching for the woman that can help stop the disasters devastating his home province of Ennis, in his world of Caedmon. Alex will do anything to save his people, even if they don't want his help.
Unnerved by the connection she feels with Alex, and the new abilities awakening inside her, Cassie refuses Alex's request. A nudge from her best friend and a demonstration of Alex's otherworldly abilities convinces Cassie to help him.
Once in Caedmon, Cassie must learn to trust Alex and accept her gift before Ennis is lost. Can she open her heart and mind and become the student instead of the teacher?
Traci, I’m so glad we were paired. Ya know, being the Texans in the group. Everything is larger, louder, and livelier in Texas, so let’s do this!
- Traci, I would ask how the weather in Texas is, but I'm only an hour away, and I know that it changes from day to day. So, instead, I'll ask how's the weather on Caedmon this time of year?
Caedmon typically has mild winters this time of year, but lately droughts and hurricanes have plagued part of the country where Alexos is from. These weather events are not natural, causing him to seek Cassie's help.
- So, this Alexos, he's an alien, right? What makes a teacher from Earth want a man who probably has appendages in places that put the "O" in ouch?
Alex is quite convincing, and his appendages are in all the desirable places.
- In a more serious note, I know it's hard to believe, but I'd like to know if you resonate with your heroine. Do you find parts of yourself on the page?
There is a little bit of me in all my characters. I share Cassie's empathy and curiosity, as well as Alex's tendency to feel responsible for everything that happens to his loved ones.
- I'm an avid believer in soul mates, and your blurb states that your Cassie is too, are you?
Huge believer. HUGE. When I met my husband, I felt like I'd finally found where I belonged. In Entangled, Cassie and Alex share a physical manifestation of their bond as soul mates that is crucial to her being able to stop the disasters.
- If you could travel to any planet, any star or moon, where would you go?
I'd hop around on different moons. I get bored pretty easy. I'd sit on our moon and watch the earth, then I'd sit on one of Jupiter's moons and watch it for a while. I think Jupiter is a gorgeous planet. Toxic, of course, but gorgeous.
Traci Bell’s interrupted interview with Rachel Firasek
It's an empath thing...
Using your "powers" to help the Dark Hills Police Department hunt down serial killers doesn't leave much time for dating. Not that Piper Anast is complaining. The last thing she needs is some guy brushing up against her and pumping his pornographic thoughts into her head.
When she meets Bennett Slade, a sexy, tormented vampire, Piper stumbles headlong into a telepathic connection with his missing daughter. She can't leave the kid to the evil surrounding her unwanted visions, nor can she resist her draw to Slade. He's the first guy she's been able to touch vision-free in, well, forever.
As she and Slade close in on the evil creature holding his daughter, Piper's powers morph into a deadly fury. To save Slade's daughter-and herself-Piper must
I’m here with Rachel and she’s decided to share with me the hidden secrets behind her debut novel.
- Traci: You've talked about seeing your novels in colors. If you could only see black and white and one other color, what color would it be? Why?
Rachel: Well, my only other favorite color is red—
Piper: Sorry bout that folks, Piper Anast here, I've kidnapped Rachel for her own safety, there's a demon on the loose and I can't have my creator hurt. I'm not above breaking the law to protect those I love. Rachel loves red, and she'll tell you it's because it is a power color, but the truth of the matter is that she's a redhead-sometimes. I love black, but I see red most of the time, sooo...yeah, I guess we agree. Red it is.
- Traci: You wouldn't be caught dead - where?
Piper: Hmmm, well, Rachel's struggling against my restraints as I shove her in a closet, so I'm assuming she doesn't like dark places, but I prefer the dark. I live in the shadows of people's memories and the dark hides shadows well. But, I guess, the subway station in New York would be a definite place I wouldn't want to visit. Too many people, too many memories...
- Traci: If you could go on a road trip with one of your characters, who would you go with and where would you go?
Piper: Of course, Rachel would only go with me. I'm the only one that can protect her against the baddies in the world. But, I'd take Tally, my devoted and loyal friend. She's always got my back and is used to having to fight off guys with her cop wand.
- Traci: When I was writing Entangled, one of the characters really jumped off the page and took on a life of her own. I couldn't keep her in the background where I had originally planned. Did you have any characters surprise you like that while writing Passion of the Soul: Piper's Fury?
Rachel: OMG, can you believe that twisted little chic put me in the closet. I had to chew through my restraints, think up my worst memory possible, grab on to her and send her into a seizure. Brat! So, Piper's friend Tally surprised me the most! I never thought I could feel so deeply for a secondary character, but she's here. Troubled. I really push her to the point of devoting Passion of the Soul: The Gypsy Triangle to her. That's book two by the way-still in draft form.
- Traci: What is Piper so furious about? (I love the name Piper, by the way.)
Rachel: Piper is a tortured little soul. She's by herself, except for a free-spirit surrogate mother that tries to play match-maker more than "mom" and it's hard on her. She can't date. Every man she meets sends her into a vision of his porn fantasies. It's very trying. So, you live twenty-four years without knowing love, romance or even sex and you get a little irritable.
