PSB: Interview & Giveaway with Lilith Saintcrow

PSB2

I’m super happy to have the Amazing Lilith Saintcrow by my side today! You might know her for her Dante Valentine series, or maybe her Jill Kismet series, but she’s here today to talk about her Strange Angels series, because the fourth book, Defiance, hits the shelves in April! Make sure to read the interview for a lot of fun, the reveal of the fifth book’s title *squee* and a giveaway!

1- With the way Jealousy ended, I think we are getting closer and closer to discovering which destiny is awaiting Dru, what can we expect in this fourth installment?

Defiance is where I start the process of taking things away from Dru. She's going to have to learn to rely on herself in new and unexpected ways. Plus, one of Dru's friends is working for Sergej, and we haven't seen the last of Anna, and there are some new faces in Dru's world. Not to mention Christophe has some secrets and his own agenda.

Also in this book, Dru hits the defiant stage of growing-up--she begins to make her own decisions instead of being pushed from place to place by events. This is a big change, and it's difficult for her and everyone around her. Her need for independence has several consequences, and since she's in such an extreme position as a svetocha those consequences can be deadly.

2- I don't wanna give anything away in case some of my readers haven't read the third book yet, but our Heroine will be diving head first on what seems a very hard quest. Will she have her friend's support?

I think the bigger question is, who really is Dru's friend, and who has other motivations for getting close to her?

3- Did any of your characters give you a hard time while writing this book?

Not so much a hard time as an unexpected one. In particular, Ash surprised me and took off in a direction I wasn't planning for. It's heartening when characters do that, actually, because it means the work is taking on an organic shape of its own. It's behaving more like an organism than a disparate collection of parts, and that's a very good sign. That's when a book comes alive.

4- Usually, who's the boss, you or your characters?

Me. Good, bad, I'm the one with the word processor.

5- If you had to find a romantic match for Dru, Christophe and Graves, from another book/TV show, who would they be and why?

I think Dru would really like to hang out with Dean Winch ester; they'd probably have a great deal in common. Graves? Well, I have this mental image of him dating Willow from the early seasons of Buffy; but Christophe? I can't think of anyone. He's very definite about who and what he wants, and I can't imagine him any other way.

6- Books are like your babies. What do you consider a bad review, and how do you react to one?

I don't respond to reviews, good or bad. Of course I'm human, I dislike it when it's clear a reviewer has a personal problem that gets projected onto the book, or when it's clear the reader didn't pay attention or even read the book in question. But responding to reviews is just not something I'm interested in. Occasionally I'll bitch about a review to my trusted friend and beta reader, but that's pretty rare.

7- What has been the most rewarding and most difficult aspects when writing this series?

Hands down, the most rewarding thing has been the response from teen readers. I'm constantly blown away by their energy and enthusiasm. Smart, funny, creative, and just plain wonderful--those are my Readers. I love them to death.

The most difficult thing with this series in particular is twofold: it's the sense (common among writers, I guess) that I haven't been serving the story well enough, that I could have done it better. The other part of my frustration is the fact that Dru is not me, she was raised in a very different way than I was, and sometimes people get confused over that. Dru's actions and views are not mine. She is a character, she is not me.

8- Is there a tentative title for the fifth and last book in the series?

Yes! The fifth and final book will be titled Reckoning, and I am currently deep in revisions for it. It's a rocketsled ride of a book.

JealousyLSC9- When we talked a few months ago, you said, and I quote "I do have plans for another YA series. Big plans, that involve a telekinetic with a smart mouth and a rage problem. It's going to be awesome." Anything you can reveal about this project just yet?

Nothing just yet! I wish there was something more definite to report. If things go the way I hope, I'll be able to work on the series about the telekinetic; if not, there are other characters clamoring for my attention.

And last a question I ask all of my guests: What's your best Spring Break memory?

I think my best Spring Break was one where I was between deadlines, so I could relax, play with my children, and I had a single day of just lying on the couch and reading. That was pretty much heaven. Maybe someday I'll get to do it again.

Thank you so much Lilith for your time <3 It's always such a pleasure to have you around!

Thank you for having me! I always enjoy it.

  1. I've wanted to start reading this series for a while actually! I first fell in love with the covers. I won't deny that I'm a cover lover. However seeing everyone rave about Dru is really what made me put these on my radar. *fingers crossed* Maybe this will be my chance!

    Thanks Tynga and Lili!

My favorite so far is Jealousy, hands down. I think Dru finally gets over her whining, and becomes a stronger character, one I'd like to hang out with in real life. In fact, I liked everything better about this book... The action, the characters relationship development... Christophe...*swoon*

Thanks for the giveaway and for making it International!:)

  99. Hi there,

    Great Interview :)

I have just finished reading this series to date and can't wait for Defiance. I borrowed from a friend and got totally swept up in Dru and Graves story. I love Christophe and can't wait to find out more about him. What a wonderful tale of betrayal, determination on Sergej's behalf and Graves unconditonal loyalty. Christophe has my Team T-shirt, there's just something about him, but with the way Lili is writing Graves, I may just have to swap. I loved the great lines Lili gave Graves. I have some fave scenes in these books that I like to imagine in a movie. Very cool!!! I understand there are 5 books in this series and I just can't wait to read more:D

  109. I absoulutely LOVEEEEE this series, the way it takes your breathe away when you read it, and how every chapter has a surprise you weren't expecting. I have read Strange Angels, Betrayals, and Jealously, and am DYINGGG ! for Defiance. Although I dont have anything signed by Lili, I'm pretty sure I would pass out if i even touched something she had. (Which is pretty embarrassing to say the least.) I started reading Strange Angels last year, because the title sang to me... well more like yelled at me, "READ ME, OR I'LL KICK YOUR ASS!" I wasn't hesitant to reply. Ever since then I've been hooked like Spongebob to Patrick. Between Raffles, or auctions ive never won anything in my whole exsistence, so needless to say im not expecting much. But, to have a way where I can share my upmost respect for a writer, that I can actually relate to is already breath taking. Yours In Eternity ,

  128. I have to admit that it took awhile to pick my favorite book in the strange angel series but after some serious thought I have decide that strange angel book one is definently my favorite!!! For me when you are just starting to read a book series book one has to be outstanding to keep the reader untested and wanting more!!! With that being said strange angel is exactly that kind of book!!! From page one it wraps you in and you don't want to put it down!!! From the drama, adventure, and thrill that's keeps you holding your breathe it justt doesn't stop!!! Lili introduces us to dru and she has had her whole word upside down and doesn't know what to do!!! But she keeps her cool even when her world goe further down the drain!!! I love the characters and love how eachbook brings something new to the table and I cannot wait for the newest one to come out!!! Stance angel is for me the best one in the series because although it is setting the scene for the rest of the books it just drags you in with dru, graves, and Christophe!!! And although I totally love love graves I am totally team Christophe!!! Thanks Lili!!! :)
