They are here. They ride. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

His name is Ares, and the fate of mankind rests on his powerful shoulders. If he falls to the forces of evil, the world falls too. As one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, he is far stronger than any mortal, but even he cannot fight his destiny forever. Not when his own brother plots against him.

Yet there is one last hope. Gifted in a way other humans can't-or won't-understand, Cara Thornhart is the key to both this Horseman's safety and his doom. But involving Cara will prove treacherous, even beyond the maddening, dangerous desire that seizes them the moment they meet. For staving off eternal darkness could have a staggering cost: Cara's life.

Whoever thought being one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse would be a fun ride would be right, according to Pestilence. If you ask his siblings though, they will have a whole different story to tell. As Ares fights alongside Thanatos & Limos to avoid breaking his seal and becoming War, simultaneously kick-starting the end of the world, he will discover a new side of himself as he stumbles into Cara, a human woman. Will she be his lighthouse or the cause of his & humanity’s downfall? Only time will tell.

This series is set in the same world as Larissa’s Demonica series and even though I haven’t read it yet (I plan to! I swear!), I didn’t have any problems finding my bearings in this world. Sure, at times I had the feeling I would know characters X and Y had I read the previous series, but it didn’t taint my enjoyment of this first novel in Larissa’s newest series.

The Four Horsemen lore was a shining star for me in this novel because it stood out from the different versions I’ve known before. I especially liked that Famine was a kick-ass woman. Way to go girl!

The characters were particularly interesting and it was nice to witness how they dealt with their issues. Ares had to cope with new emotions he’s never felt before whereas Cara was thrown into the paranormal world none too gently. Ares’ siblings also rocked and I can’t wait to discover more about them.

The end seemed to be a dreadful promise and I was expecting the worst. Turns out I was in for a surprise! Everything isn’t happily ever after, but there’s room for hope and I’m anxious for the second novel: Immortal Rider, due in December.

My Verdict:

Amazing, original and engrossing. Eternal Rider will sweep you off your feet and drag you for a breathtaking ride with the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
