Daring You To Read...First Grave On The Right by Darynda Jones

Daring You To Read is a weekly feature here on Tynga’s Reviews where we dare you to read some of our favorite older releases (at least 6 months old). All the books/series we choose to feature are titles we adored and think you should give them a shot! We think it’s a super awesome way to discover that special book who might have slipped off your radar!

You’ve already read the book? Let’s us know what you thought!

You are accepting the dare? We’d love to know!

It's no secret that I am primarily a young adult reader, so it's rare that I am recommending an adult series to you, but Darynda Jones is so, so worth it.

There are really three reasons to read FIRST GRAVE ON THE RIGHT by Darynda Jones, as well as the rest of the series...

Firstly, the humor. I cannot even begin to explain how many times I laughed so hard I had to get a drink of water because of this one. Jones has simply mastered the comical techniques when writing with both wittiness and sarcasm oozing off of almost every word and thought that leaves Charley's mouth. I loved it and was excited to keep reading because it kept an otherwise complex story line somewhat light.

The next reason is the story line and Charley. The whole paranormal private investigator concept was great. Executed perfectly, we got equal parts mystery, intrigue, and an overall amazing plot. I couldn't put it down. And that's saying a lot since I tend to try to avoid Grim Reaper tales.

And lastly... Reyes. Oh, Reyes, this book is worth reading just for Reyes. A mysterious entity, he has amazing powers that are unexplainable and likes to get Charley hot and bothered in his spare time. The mystery surrounding his existence as well as his fast-growing romance with Charley is deliciously intoxicating and you truly can never get enough. I would read this series just for Reyes, in all honesty.

So, with all of that being said, this book truly does come in high recommendation from me. I loved the idea of it, the execution, the characters, and everything else you could possibly imagine. It comes in high recommendation to those adult readers out there looking for a paranormal mystery with a humorous side and hot romance.

A smashing, award-winning debut novel that introduces Charley Davidson: part-time private investigator and full-time Grim Reaper.

Charley sees dead people. That’s right, she sees dead people. And it’s her job to convince them to “go into the light.” But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (i.e. murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice. Complicating matters are the intensely hot dreams she’s been having about an Entity who has been following her all her life...and it turns out he might not be dead after all. In fact, he might be something else entirely.

Charley Davidson Series:

Do you think you can handle this dare?

I'm a 18 year old from a small town in New Jersey that's a newcomer to the book blogging world. Because I am an incoming senior in high school the closest thing that I have to a job is being a volunteer at the town library, so I spend most of my time reading and persuading my parents to let me buy more books!

  1. Oh, I love this series! It's funny, sexy, AND the criminal case Charley is investigating is no less interesting than the Reyes mystery (which is, oh, well, better, but that's because we're talking about Reyes here!) The third book for the series just got published here 3 days ago and I can't wait to get my hands on it :)))
