Interview & Giveaway with Abra Ebner!

Today I have to huge honor the present you Abra Ebner, author of the fantastic book The Knight Angels : Book of Love. I absolutely loved this book! You can find my review here.

The Knight Angels have a very interesting version of the afterlife, where did the inspiration come from?

The inspiration came from my own fascination and fears of death. I’ve experienced loss in my past when a boyfriend of mine died in high school. I knew the best way to combat my fears of it was to accept it, talk about it, and know that there’s more to it. I wanted love to span that gap, and that’s what Knight Angels allowed me to do.

I love that your book has many layers and I feel there's a profound reflection under the paranormal romance, was it your intention when writing the book?

My husband tells me I have a knack for relating to anyone that crosses my path. It’s funny to think I can do that with people I’ve never even met. I never intended my books to reach readers the way that they have, but it’s a blissful happenstance. I get emails from all sorts of people, telling me that they feel as though the books were written about them, and it’s changed their lives. I am a very thoughtful person, and I use my writing as a way to work through my own problems, I guess that’s where the deep underlying reflection comes from. Life to me is something to be pondered, endlessly.

Do the main characters' names have a signification? How did you choose them?

A lot of my character names are names I simply love. Jane was originally Jules, but after watching and listening to “Diary of Jane” by Breaking Benjamin, I felt connected to the song, thinking this girl they sang about was just like my story. That was a huge inspiration. Max is a name in my mind for future kids, ha ha. Wes was a name that sounded cool, calm, the type of guy that’s just chill. Emily came across as being simple, sophisticated, anything but what the character outwardly displays.

If you had to choose a favorite quote from that novel, what would it be?

“When I think of death, I don’t see what everyone else does. There’s a silent whisper when you find it, and a voice telling us that it’ll be okay.”

I was up all night before I started writing the book when that line finally came to me. The whole book sprung from that quote—it spoke to me.

Shall we learn a bit more about you =)

What were you like as a teenager?

I was quiet, creative, independent, and whimsical. I was a very twiggy child, and I loved horses. My mom was artistic, and as such, art and drawing was all I did. I loved the outdoors, and never turned down a challenge. Because of this I’m really good at a lot of things: Snowboarding, Wakeboarding, Horseback-riding, Biking, Hockey, Gardening, Cooking, Fishing, Bowling… You name it, I can do it—and I will.

Do you believe in soul mates?

Of course! Who doesn’t want to believe? There’s always that perfect person out there, no matter how impossible it seems to be.

You travel a lot, what's you favorite country and why?

That’s a hard one. I loved Australia for the laid back culture, but Switzerland was probably my favorite. I have so much family there that I feel like I belong. They have a much protected way of living, keeping everything a secret. When you’re there, it really feels like you’re in another world.

Have you ever been in Quebec, Canada and eat real maple syrup? If not you need to!

I did honeymoon at Lake Louise!!!!! I’m certain I had syrup on my pancakes, and I only eat real syrup, none of that Eggo crud, ha ha. I also LOVE my Crown Royal.

What other form of art do you practice?

Drawing, Digital, Painting, and Sculpture.

Three completely random things we don't know about you?

I put cinnamon in my coffee.

I collect German tea cups.

I eat Mexican food every Friday and go to the pub every Monday.

Thank you very much Abra for taking the time to answer my questions! It’s been great chatting with you =) And I can’t wait to read the following Angel Knights book!
