A few days ago I had the chance to do an interview with the fantastic Kim Harrison! She is well know for her Hollows series, but she also have a young adult series! The first book, Once Dead, Twice Shy was released on June 1st, 2009 (you can find my review here) and her second book Early to Death, Early to Rise released on May 25th, 2010. I’m currently reading it and it’s great so stay tuned for my review *winks* Anyway! Here’s what Kim had to share with us!
Would you share with us how you made your decision to to write a YA series?
Young adult is where I found my love of reading, and I've always felt that if I could bring that same love of reading to a new audience, that I would have really done something worthwhile. Besides, it's a lot of fun.
What's the biggest difference for you, as a writer, between YA and Adult series?
There is some difference in word choice and levels of violence, but the character development and plotting are just as snappy and detailed as in my adult. It's not that hard to put myself back in a YA frame of mind, which might be kind of bad in a way, now that I think about it. -laugh-
The world you created for your Madison Avery series is quite unique, where did the inspiration came from?
The inspiration behind Madison was actually a desire for me to stretch my writing skills. I wanted to know if I could write a character who was supposed to do a very bad thing, killing people under heaven's direction, and yet have her be likable. I think I managed it.
I especially liked the Timekeeper lore, is it pure Kim imagination, or does it originate from some old lore? What about the amulets?
Thank you! I had a lot of fun developing the rules for the world, including the timekeepers and amulets. I really can't say where the ideas for them came from. I read so much as I was growing up, I do not want to say that they came purely from my thoughts, but the truth is probably somewhere in the middle, where I took ideas from several series and melded them into something brand new.
How many books can we expect in that series?
We're looking at three right now, with SOMETHING DEADLY THIS WAY COMES being the final third.
If you were an angel, what side would you join?
Mmmmm, I'd say I'd probably join Madison's side, seeing as I know where she's going, and have peeked at the end. -laugh-
Thank you very much Kim for taking the time to answer my questions!

Harper Collins Canada offered a Hardcover copy of Early to Death, Early to Rise to one lucky winner!
Seventeen, dead, and in charge of heaven's dark angels—all itching to kill someone.
Madison Avery's dreams of ever fitting in at her new school died when she did. Especially since she was able to maintain the illusion of a body, deal with a pesky guardian angel, and oh yeah, bring the reaper who killed her to his untimely end. Not exactly in-crowd material. It's amazing that her crush, Josh, doesn't think she's totally nuts.
Now Madison has learned that she's the dark timekeeper, in charge of angels who follow the murky guidelines of fate. Never one to abide by the rules, she decides it's time for a major change to the system. With the help of some unlikely allies, Madison forms a rogue group of reapers who definitely don't adhere to the rules of the heavens.
But as she grapples with the terrifying new skills that come with being a timekeeper, Madison realizes she may not be prepared for what lies ahead—unless she gets some seriously divine intervention.
