Guest Post & Giveaway with Judith Graves

Judith Graves, author of Under my Skin, took some time in her busy schedule to rally her paranormal  2k10 friends to give us some insight on their character’s biggest fear. Without further introduction, here’s what Judith wanted to share with us!

---------------------

What a week! I’ve just returned home after 8 days in NYC for Book Expo ADSC08780merica and the Class of 2k10 NYC tour. Wowza. We did so much and yet had no time to do typical “touristy” stuff. Oh well, maybe next year. My blog partner, Kitty Keswick, (also a member of 2k10) and I vlogged our BEA/NYC experiences and I had intended to video the paranormal authors in the group answering a question just for this blog. You know what they say about the road to hell – I simply ran out of time. HOWEVER, I did manage to wrangle a few twitter-like responses, so here goes…

As writers of the paranormal, the supernatural, the plain odd and often creepy, our characters face the fantastical and the fierce – things that go bump in the night. Yet the underlying themes of paranormal fiction are those any teen / adult can relate to. I ask you, fellow freaky authors:

“What does your main character fear the most?”

Judith Graves, Under My Skin (Leap Books)

Eryn’s biggest fear is also her biggest strength - the unexplored power that lies under her skin.

Leah Cypess, Mistwood (Greenwillow / HarperCollins)

Above all, Isabel fears failure -- a failure that can only happen if she is not truly the all-powerful creature everyone believes her to be.

Mara Purnhagen, Past Midnight (Harlequin Teen)

Charlotte fears that people will not see her as normal.

Shannon Delany, 13 to Life (St. Martin’s Griffin)

Jess'd say she fears not being who her mom hoped she'd be. But what we think we fear is not always what we really fear most.

Kitty Keswick, Freaksville (Leap Books)

Kasey, fundamental fear is people will see through her and see her as a freak. But she's learning to accept herself and her gifts.

Thank you very much Judith! I really appreciate you taking to time to stop by <3

She also offered a nice bunch of swag to giveaway to one lucky winner!

  8. Hey guys, thanks for sharing your fears. Snakes are my hubbie's worst fear - he's so Indiana Jones, I love it. ;) Losing a family member would be tough, I get that one as well. I love water (wading at the lake, throwing sticks to my pups is a fav summer thing), but I hate pools for some reason. Falling - well, I'm not much of a flyer, so I feel that one too. But bees / wasps - now you're talking my language. I'm a spastic, screaming, flailing fool around those little suckers!

Also, I don't really think I'm scared of spiders & other bugs, but I hate the thought of them crawling on me ;)

  14. My biggest fear is death. >< I think that is just for now because I have so many things in life I want to still experience and I would find it a waste if I die just die. Some people will welcome death anytime, but not me.

My biggest fear is losing my children! Someone once told me it's just not natural to out live your children. And I agree now that I have little ones!

  23. I agree with those who voiced the fear of losing loved ones and those scared of spiders, snakes and stinging bugs. I will add two others I haven't seen. I don't like big toads and frogs (they are all over the yard and some got in our garage - yuck). Second, I am quite scared of aging - yes, I am admitting it!

  31. My biggest fear is to miss out on reading that one book that will blow my mind! I don't like reading reviews from people I don't know because they may ruin it for me. I stick to the rec's from people I can trust to assuage this fear, but can't quash it completely
