Wicked Deeds on a Winter’s Night by Kresley Cole

Her breathless kiss haunts him...
Bowen MacRieve of the Lykae clan was nearly destroyed when he lost the one woman meant for him. The ruthless warrior grew even colder, never taking another to his bed -- until a smoldering encounter with his enemy, Mariketa the Awaited, reawakens his darkest desires. When sinister forces unite against her, the Highlander finds himself using all his strength and skill to keep her alive.
His slow, hot touch is irresistible...
Temporarily stripped of her powers, Mari is forced to take refuge with her sworn adversary. It's rumored that no one can tempt Bowen's hardened heart, but soon passion burns between them. Though a future together is impossible, she fears he has no intention of letting her go.
No deed is too wicked for her seduction...
If they defeat the evil that surrounds them, can Mari deny Bowen when he demands her body and soul -- or will she risk everything for her fierce protector?

The third book in this amazing series starts before the end of the second book, which is quite unusual but was necessary to the story. We go back in time to see how Bowen MacRieve, werewolf, meets Mariketa, witch, during the Hie. The Hie is a paranormal version of “The amazing race”. In this race no one plays fair, including our two heroes and their actions during this competition will set the tone to their relationship.

I LOVED this book! My favorite in the series so far, the whole book feels like an epic chase. Bowen, because of his past, has an incredible hatred toward all witches but he finds himself enthralled by the young witch, even though he entered the Hie to retrieve his long lost Mate. The whole thing drives him nuts with guilt and he is certain, at first, that Mariketa cast an hex on him. On the other hand, Mariteka still young and mortal is insanely attracted to him physically, but completely hates his guts. The evolution of their relationship is a delight, as they draw and repulse each other alternatively. Even though they frustrated me at times, I loved every single pages. Both of the heroes’ pasts made things that much more interesting and I couldn’t wait to see how they would deal with every obstacles. On a side note, I was really happy to see Nix again, she is so unique and colorful, I hope she will have her own book!

The plot was also very well thought. The main characters will find themselves caught in a tropical forest swarming with two factions of humans at war and they better get out of there pronto because the full moon is near. Their journey was stressful, surprising and sultry by moments. The last sixty pages or so hit me like a ten-wheelers in the face. I honestly never imagined something like this could happen. Kresley really took me by surprise. The end was gut-wrenching and heart-shattering and I felt so bad for the characters involved.

Miss Cole once again managed to write an amazing story. The tone of this book was quite unique and unfortunately I wouldn’t know how to describe it, but I loved it!

If you’re an adult and haven’t started this series yet, do yourself a favor and get your hands on the whole series, because when you start, you just keep craving for more! I can’t wait to see whom the next book will be about.
