Today I am very happy to have Lauren Kate, author of Fallen (my review) & Torment with me! I LOVE the Fallen series so I had to ask Lauren if she would stop by and share with us ^^ Her latest release, Torment released on September 28th and has been a huge success! Let’s learn more about her, shall we?
Before I moved to Los Angeles last fall, I was living on a farm.
Two hundred and twenty acres of soy, tomatoes, and alfalfa in the middle of nowhere northern California. It was the place where I first laid eyes on my husband, it was the place where got married (we had a rehearsal dinner/karaoke party in the pole barn the night before), and it’s the place where I wrote Fallen.
So when it came time to move to Los Angeles, where my husband is getting his PhD in English Literature, both of us wanted to find a place that retained some of the peace and charm of the rural life we used to live. We settled on Laurel Canyon, which is a windy, scenic, hippy neighborhood in LA. It’s five minutes from the lights and action of the Sunset Strip but feels a world away.
My main stipulation on deciding on a place to live was that I wanted a room with a view. I spend a lot of time staring into space and it helps me greatly to have something pretty to stare at. This is the best seat in the house.
In the mornings, I like to take our dog Milo
for a run in Runyon Canyon, the canyon next door to ours. Earlier this fall, I ran a half-marathon in Disneyland, and Milo was a great training partner. This is his favorite bench to take a break at in Runyon.
Recently, I’ve been writing pretty much all day, every day—but that’s NOT what this blog is about, is it? So I won’t go into detail about my badly battered computer….
My very favorite way to wind down is by cooking something elaborate. I’m a food-blog nut, and when I can’t sleep because I’m on a crazy deadline, I scour the web for cool new recipes. Recently I’ve been making a lot of homemade pasta.
And of course, my all-time favorite past-time is reading. My entire living room is filled with wall-to-wall bookshelves. As a kid, I loved Roald Dahl, Louis Sachar, as a teen, I fell for Virginia Woolf, Charles Dickens, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Don DeLillo. These days, I’ve been devouring The Hunger Games, re-reading His Dark Materials, and recently adoring a really dark, amazing book called Tender Morsels by Margot Lanagan.
So there you have it! The moments “when I’m not writing” seem to be few and far between these days, but on those rare occasions, this is exactly what I like to do.

Thank you so much Lauren for taking the time to share these bits of your life with us! It’s greatly appreciated =)
Here’s a bit more about the Fallen series!
