With the sequel of one of my favorite books ever releasing in less than a month, I felt it was fitting to dare you all to check it out! This is one of those books that I loved so much, I don't really know how to describe it to you. Thus, I'm going to keep this Daring You To Read post short and sweet because there's no way I can do DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE justice.
The world building and characterization in this novel was amazing, but what I really enjoyed was the deeper meaning and hidden themes that are littered throughout the entire novel. It not only made the book a really enjoyable read, but a read full of morals that left me with a smile and a newfound respect for the author as I finished reading. This book is one of those books that constantly reminds you to never lose hope, and I truly loved it because of that.
Hope is the real magic, child.
I would recommend this book to just about anyone of any age level because of the fact that it has everything. It has fantasy, it has mysteries that are constantly unraveling, it has romance, and a whole lot of action. It's truly tailored to anybody who wants to give it a chance. Unlike anything you ever read before, this story will leave you breathless and you won't really know how to react at its completion because you're so blown away.
And if none of that has made you want to pick up this book, I have one word for you... Akiva.
Around the world, black hand prints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.
In a dark and dusty shop, a devil's supply of human teeth grows dangerously low.
And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war.
Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she's prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands"; she speaks many languages—not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she's about to find out.
When one of the strangers—beautiful, haunted Akiva—fixes his fire-colored eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?
Are YOU brave enough to take this dare?
I read this book this year and it's definitely going to be on my favorites book list. It's truly awesome and I also can't wait for the sequel.
