Today, I have the pleasure of welcoming Cassie Alexander to the blog. She's the author of NIGHTSHIFTED, an urban fantasy with a hospital setting. It's a unique entry into the genre, thanks to Cassie's real life experiences as a registered nurse, and you can get it now from St. Martin's Press. Cassie's second book, MOONSHIFTED, will be coming out later this year, so you won't have to wait too long if you fall in love with Edie Spence.
Cassie's post is a bit different from the usual but I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I sure did! And don't forget to enter the giveaway that Cassie has graciously provided.

Thanks for stopping by, Cassie! This is probably the most unique presentation we've had so far. =)

Here's the scoop on NIGHTSHIFTED:
From debut author Cassie Alexander comes a spectacular new urban fantasy series where working the nightshift can be a real nightmare. Nothing compares to being Nightshifted.
Nursing school prepared Edie Spence for a lot of things. Burn victims? No problem. Severed limbs? Piece of cake. Vampires? No way in hell. But as the newest nurse on Y4, the secret ward hidden in the bowels of County Hospital, Edie has her hands full with every paranormal patient you can imagine—from vamps and were-things to zombies and beyond…
Edie’s just trying to learn the ropes so she can get through her latest shift unscathed. But when a vampire servant turns to dust under her watch, all hell breaks loose. Now she’s haunted by the man’s dying words—Save Anna—and before she knows it, she’s on a mission to rescue some poor girl from the undead. Which involves crashing a vampire den, falling for a zombie, and fighting for her soul. Grey’s Anatomy was never like this…

You can also start getting excited about MOONSHIFTED, which comes out on November 27:
Check in to County Hospital’s secret ward—where paranormal activities lead to medical emergencies for one tireless nurse…
After surviving a brutal vampire attack, Nurse Edie Spence is ready to get back to work—attending to supernatural creatuers in need of medical help. But her nursing skills are put to the test when she witnesses a hit-and-run on her lunch break. The injured pedestrian is not only a werewolf, he’s the pack leader. And now Edie’s stuck in the middle of an all-out were-war…
With two rival packs fighting tooth and nail, Edie has no intention of crossing enemy lines. But when she meets her patient’s nephew—a tattooed werewolf named Lucas with a predatory gleam in his eye that’s hard to resist—Edie can’t help but choose sides. The question is: can she trust this dangerous new ally? And can she trust her own instincts when she’s near him? Either way, Edie can’t seem to pull away—even if getting involved makes her easy prey…

ReplyDeleteIf I was a nurse I think I would be excited to learn and meet to many persons and creatures I didn't know anything about.
I think I've the heart of a nurse, but not the stomach for it.
ReplyDeleteI'd be most worried about helping a creature that wasn't very appreciative and getting chewed up and spit out.

I've be worried about surviving the night if I was the newest Y4 nurse. That is indeed a unique post, but very efficient and telling.
ReplyDeleteAs a former nurse, I'd be most worried about the bodily fluids LOL. That's definitely one of the hardest parts of the job. I can just imagine what they'd be like on the Y4 ward.
ReplyDeletesounds like a fascinating series....

This was such a great post - and loved the chart :)! The books sound awesome. I like the link of the nurse into the paranormal world. Seems like it would certainly make thing interesting on the job. MY BFF is an ER nurse that works night shifts, don't think shes ever had any of these particular type of patients though ;).
