Due to technological advances and pressure from the selected few who knows about their existence, Bran, Marrok of the US, decided to unveil the werewolves’ existence to humanity. Of course this decision affects more than the US wolves exclusively and discussions with European wolves is necessary. Charles has the strong feeling his father should not assist to this conference and manages to convince him to go in his stead. Charles was right to worry. Kidnapping attempts, murders and magic is on the menu, and not everyone will live to tell the tale.

What a great story Patricia Briggs, once again, penned for us! Hunting Ground is the second book in the Alpha & Omega series and I really like the direction it’s taking. This time around, Charles and Anna find themselves in Seattle amongst a delegation of alpha wolves from all over Europe and as if getting them to play nice wasn’t hard enough, Anna’s omega status draws in a lot of attention, and not only the positive kind. Due to her past, being surrounded by males is hard for Anna, and to have so many powerful ones in a room is dire, but her growth in this book was extremely satisfying and, kudos to Briggs, believable.

Action-packed pretty much from the get go, Hunting Ground was a fast and furious read. The plot was intricate and multiple violent events will occur, shrouding everything with mystery. What’s the link between the events? Are there multiple culprit? Who’s behind all this scheming? Who can our heroes trust? Patricia did an amazing job keeping her readers on their toes until the very end and even though I had multiple possible culprit in mind, I didn’t manage to hit the bull’s eye.

Even with all the action going on, my favorite aspect of this novel was the psychological one. Both Charles and Anna have issues of their own to work through and being together, even though they love each other, is a challenge of its own. I truly enjoyed watching them dancing around, trying to find the right words and keep control of their emotions. Both of them grew tremendously in this installment and I can’t wait to see the results in the next novel.

Multiple characters were also introduced in this round and I fell for some of them. Tom and his mate Moira were amazing, Arthur’s crazy personality was loveable and his mate Sunny was the sweetest thing. Dana, one of the Fey Grey Lord was interesting, to say the least, and I enjoyed hating Chastel for all he was worth. All in all, a very interesting crew of secondary characters!

The end was a shocker for me because I hadn’t foreseen any of it. The life or death situation Briggs delivered at the end was more than enough to get your heart pounding and your palms sweating, praying for the best. I really liked every second of this book and my only complain would be that it was too short! Only 286 pages, so I hope Fair Game, third book in the series, will be longer!

Alpha and Omega series is definitely a must read for Urban Fantasy and Shifters lovers. Patricia Briggs is an amazing writer and each book is a delight!
