This thrilling sequel to the much-talked-about Nightshade begins just where it ended-Calla Tor wakes up in the lair of the Searchers, her sworn enemy, and she's certain her days are numbered. But then the Searchers make her an offer-one that gives her the chance to destroy her former masters and save the pack-and the man-she left behind. Is Ren worth the price of her freedom? And will Shay stand by her side no matter what? Now in control of her own destiny, Calla must decide which battles are worth fighting and how many trials true love can endure and still survive.
Calla wakes up in a very strange place, facing her former worst enemies and isn’t quite sure what to do next. Why do I say former enemies? Because after what Shay and her discovered at the end of Nightshade, everything she’s ever known seems to be all lies. And an alliance with the dreaded Searchers might be the only way to save her pack mates. With Shay, The scion – whatever that means –, Calla will jump head first in a war, facing her old allies. Will she win her battle? Is it even possible to win this war considering all the possible casualties?
Wolfsbane was an amazing read once again and I really liked that it was so different from Nightshade. Calla finds herself on the other side of the mirror, a bit like Alice in Wonderland. Along her side, we will discover the Searchers’ world, their magic, their history, as well as Calla’s true history. The details of the Harrowing, when Guardians and Searchers allied in hopes of freedom. Calla will also have to deal with the consequences of her previous decisions and it won’t be an easy task. Running off will cost her more than she ever imagined, but can she make amends?
The character psychology was really interesting. Calla & Shay’s struggled to uncover the truth and establish the bases of their relationship, not only with each other, but also with their new allies. We also meet some great new characters. Connor was by far my favorite with his wits and multilayered personality. Monroe also follows close behind. I guessed his secret long before it was out, but I still enjoyed the mystery around him.
The action built like a crescendo and even though the story picks up slowly, the tension is simply unbearable by the end. I’m anxious to see what Bloodrose will bring to the table, but with the way Wolfsbane ended, I have really high expectations!
Wolfsbane is a cruel and heart-breaking world wrapped in a pretty and magical package. Its world will leave you breathless and the characters will have you tearing-up. Make sure you buckle-up, because once you start reading, you’re in for quite a ride!
