I'm Madison Avery, in charge of heaven's hit squad . . . and fighting it all the way.

When Madison died the night of her prom, she knew her life would never be the same. Now she has a powerful amulet, a team of rogue angels by her side, and the ability to flash forward into the future to see the shape of destiny. And of course, now she's finally with Josh—a perfect boyfriend who doesn't even mind that she's dead.

But being dead has its disadvantages, too. Madison feels caught between the light and the dark, and between her real life and her timekeeper status. When Madison has the opportunity to get her body back—to be alive again—she faces her most difficult decision yet. If she claims it, she could return to being a normal girl—and have a chance at a real relationship with Josh. But would having the one thing she wants most in the world also mean giving up everything she's worked so hard for?

After succeeding a first time in saving someone’s soul without having to sacrifice their life, Madison, Nakita & Barnabas are even more determined in changing heaven rules, even if doubt is still lurking in the corners of their mind. This time, they will try to save a girl named Tammy, from a joyless, lonely life without her soul. Will they succeed again or will they Seraph claim her soul back early?

I was really happy to see those great characters once more. I love their personalities, their conviction and determination to do what’s right, even if the path is challenging. Madison will go to extreme length to reach her goal, fighting body and soul in a battle that seems to be a lost cause. You can’t help but admire her drive even when doubt shadows her thoughts. Barnabas is still my favorite. He’s the sweetest thing and always knows the right thing to say.

The Madison Avery books are always quick reads (~250 pages) but the plot line was good and smooth. Kim always manages to surprise her readers with a  twist or another. This book is the last installment in the series, and the way it was wrapped-up was satisfying. There would be room for more to this story though, so maybe we’ll be blessed with a short story?

The Madison Avery series is an epic battle between light and dark angels, fighting over human souls, in the name of free will & Fate respectively. The subject could be heavy but Harrison wrote it in fashionable lightness to make it an highly entertaining read.

Is your soul safe from an unexpected reap?

  1. Fantastic Review! I love Kim Harrison's Hollow series and was delighted when she started the Madison Avery series.

I think the whole reaper concept is beautifully done and can't wait until this comes out!

Thanks for the great review. I love the fact that Kim plays up the secondary characters in this series as well as she does in the Hollows series.

I really like that Kim's side characters are always as well developed as the main characters - and Barnabas is my favorite too!<3
