Interview with Rachel Vincent

I am really happy to present you my interview with the fabulous Rachel Vincent! I am such a big fan of both her series, it's a huge honor she did to me by accepting my invitation =)

Before getting down to business *winks* I'd like to point out the fact that My Soul to Save, second book in the Soul Sreamers series will release on December 29th, 2009 and trust me, you want to buy it!

Show time!

Would you introduce us to both your series, for the sake of those poor lost souls who haven't read your books yet?
The Shifters series is about a werecat named Faythe Sanders, who is learning to define her own role in her family and fighting to claim a place in her Pride. It's dark and gritty, and full of violence and... well... drama. ;-)

My Soul Screamers series is about a teenage bean sidhe (banshee) trying to balance a normal high school experience with the terrifying, hidden world she’s just discovered. It has reapers and all kinds of other monsters, as well as the Netherworld, a warped mirror image of our own world, where everything wants to eat you! Seriously. ;-)

Your Soul Screamers series is based on Bean Sidhe, pretty original! Where did that idea first came from?

That idea came from a conscious effort to find a fantasy angle that hadn't already been thoroughly explored in urban fantasy. I just didn't have anything new to add to vamp, werewolf, or witch lore. But I loved what I came up with for the Irish bean sidhe!

I have been wondering, Bean Sidhe have pretty long life span, why do they seem to age at a normal rate when they are young and kind of stall at 25-30ish? Will they eventually grow old or will they always look that young?

Their aging doesn't start slowing down until after puberty.

Is the Netherworld part of the lore or it's pure Rachel Imagination?
The Netherworld is all me. And I've never had so much fun in my life as I do when I write the Netherworld. Except maybe for the thunderbirds in the last two Shifters books. They're fun too. And scary. ;-)

I was wondering with the end of the shifters series, do you have plans for another adult series?

Yes! I’m currently contracted for two new adult books with Mira Books, in a new series. Unfortunately, that’s all I can say about that new venture right now. ;-)

Now off to some questions to get to know the woman behind the books =)
If you had to pick any other career what would it be and why?

Oh, I don't know! I was really made for writing. I taught ninth grade English for a short while, but I really wasn't comfortable there, once I realized the students weren't there by choice. ;-) Maybe I could edit? Whatever it is, it would have to involve books.

What's your favorite TV show?

Right now? Glee. But I also enjoy Big Love, True Blood, and I'm still hanging in with Heroes.

Would you like either of your series to be made into a movie or a TV show? What would scare you the most in the process?

Sure! Television is great exposure. ;-) The scariest part (looking in from the outside) seems to be letting go. Right now, I have total creative control over what goes between the covers (I don't do cover art). But selling your rights to someone else means putting your world and characters in their hands. That sounds pretty scary!

What's your favorite book series (other then yours of course, we know they are awesome *winks*)?

Thanks! I love The Night Huntress series, and Patricia Briggs Mercy series.

What's your biggest dream?

I would love to be a fabulously successful writer. I'm workin' on it. ;-)

What's the most crazy thing you ever did?

Um... I hate to ruin the mystique, but I'm really not much of a daredevil. Beef Jerky after midnight is about as crazy as it gets for me. ;-)

Thank you so much Rachel for taking the time to answers my question, it's greatly appreicated!
