All of us being book lovers I’m sure we all share this feelings at least once in a while: So many books, so little time! Lately, I’ve been submerged by this feeling. You all know I have my little baby girl Lily-Ann, who is now 6 months old BTW, I also moved two weeks ago, my husband just got a new job because his old one wasn’t calling him anymore and during those busy and stressful moments I’ve struggled to keep my reading up. There is a variety of good books sitting on my shelves (which I am now reorganising post-move) and I am anxious to finally get to them. And that’s not the mention all the ones on my kindle, which I actually find easier to read because I can bring it during my stroller rides.
My question to you is, how do you find time to read when life gets in the way?
I really really love my blog, but in the past months I've struggled getting my posts up on time and it really saddens me. I am becoming really anxious because I’m at a point where I;m not sure I’ll have time to read a novel each week for my Friday review. Thankfully I am surrounded by a wonderful blogging team, so I’m sure (I hope?) you don’t feel left out during this hard period.
To make it up to you, I’m promise I’ll record a vlog and give you a tour of my shelves once I’m done opening all my boxes of books :)

Part of that is the stress of being a new parent and will get better as you learn to manage the time and responsibilities. I get into a dunk every once in a while too though and I have to walk away for a few days
ReplyDeleteI guess it'll be better once Lily sleeps overnight
DeleteI struggle to find read in between my studying. Usually my only opportunity to read is on the 15min bus ride in the morning and the hour or so before I go to sleep (sometimes it becomes more than an hour... It also helps me fall asleep faster... usually) It takes me 1-2 weeks to finish a book, I used to read one a day before school got insane :(
ReplyDeleteIt takes make 2-3 weeks the read a book, and I used to read 2 per week :(
DeleteBecause my husband is in the military and he got posted, and it was not feasable to accompany him this time around, the stress of raising two children, running a household, doing a demanding day job, and running a blog got to be too much. I decided last June to take a four-month hiatus from my blog and it was the best decision I could have made. Most people were understanding and great and for those who weren't...not my problem. As far as I am concerned you have to do what is best for you.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Im glad I have such great partners on the blog
DeleteI think the key is to find balance in your life. If writing articles for the blog is too much, try to either find another contributor, a guest poster, or post less often. Your daughter needs you now and as she grows, she'll take up less of your time. She's only this small once and this is the time to enjoy her.
ReplyDeleteI found that audio books are really great for when I don't have time to read. I can go for a walk and listen, drive around and listen, and even do housework. It's really important to get an audio book with a good reader or narrator or I find myself zoning out.
Audio does sound like a great solution, but it seems kind of expensive.
DeleteWhen my kids were little, I only read graphic novels. I could get through a whole book in an hour. Also audiobooks are good. You can read them while folding laundry, doing dishes, and running errands in the car.
ReplyDeleteYeah but audio seems a bit expensive. So far kindle has been my best option
DeleteTynga, I thinks this is normal. Specially for you with your beautiful baby. I spend like three months without reading any single page, just because work was too busy and I couldn't find the time to sit down and enjoy a book. I have like 20 books on my shelf that need to be read, and my kindle is a real mess. But I find it easier too to read in my kindle because it's just easier to carry it around. I even read on my iphone kindle app sometimes....
ReplyDeleteAnyway, nights are good for me to read, just before sleeping. Maybe you will find a couple of hours free to enjoy reading :)
Lily still wakes up 3-4 times per night, so I go to bed very early if I wanna get any sleeps at all :( I'm afraid to count how many books I have to read.. I have 2 full shelves =/
DeleteHi Tynga, yes, you have to make decisions how to use your time, and if you don't enjoy blogging anymore due to the stress is causes, take a break. It is a hobby, and you are busy enough with all the other stuff. It really must not become a chore. Of course, I would love to see your shelves some time.
ReplyDeleteI just finished putting the books in them, once hubby installs the doors Ill record the video :)
