Today's guest is Coreene Callahan, author of the Dragonfury books. The first book, FURY OF FIRE, came out in February, and the second one has just been released today! We're excited to have Coreene here to celebrate her pub day and hope that you'll all enjoy finding out what she does when she's not writing. Coreene is providing a wonderful giveaway to accompany her guest post so make sure you stick around and enter.
I get asked all the time what I do when I’m not writing. “Trying to survive” is usually my answer. Wrangling imaginary characters, after all, is much easier than keeping track of a husband, three kids, and one mental, but very lovable dog. Throw that together with a crazy schedule, and…you guessed it. Most of the time I’m not sure which way is up. Or, ah, down.
But never mind that.
I’m much more interested in how the question has morphed lately. It’s no longer what I do when I’m not writing, but rather, how I’ll be spending my summer vacation. I would like to say, “Oh, nothing special. Just a few weeks in Rome.” But alas, I’d be lying. I’ll be doing the same thing I do every summer.
Camping.
Yes, you heard me right. Two weeks of nothing but the great outdoors. And if you guessed it’s not my favorite activity, you’d be bang on. But my family adores it, and I’m a good sport, so I go. I see. I experience (and enjoy for the most part), but while planning our most recent adventure, I got to thinking. What if I could bring along a helper? Someone to do all those pesky jobs like, oh say, planning meals, trips to the laundromat, and airing out the tents. And poof, in a flash of inspiration the answer came to me. I need a Dragon-Shifter camping buddy, and then—in true writer form—made a list of all the reasons why.
So without further ado, here they are…
10 Reasons to Take a Dragon-Shifter Camping
- He’ll light your fire. No matches required.
- All dragons are excellent watchdogs. No need to worry about wild animals (or the human variety either) wandering into your campsite when he’s around.
- Forget about the BBQ. He’ll flambé your shish kabob within seconds.
- Stargazing takes on a whole new meaning when he whisks you off for a romantic midnight flight.
- Mosquitoes are afraid of dragons.
- Leave the extra blankets at home. You’ll never suffer a chilly, damp tent again.
- Razor-sharp claws make chopping firewood a breeze.
- His glowing eyes come in handy when you can’t find the flashlight for a 3 a.m. bathroom run.
- He’s a great hiking buddy. When you get tired of walking, hitch a ride on his back.
- Dragons scare fish out of the water. Great for a quick meal when your camping larder is empty.
So there you have it. All the reasons I think I need a Dragon-Shifter of my own this summer. Somehow, though, I don’t think my husband will agree.

Here's the scoop on FURY OF FIRE and FURY OF ICE:
When duty calls, a warrior answers—no matter the consequences.
A clandestine race of half-dragon, half-humans known as dragon-shifters lives among us. Bastian, leader of the Nightfury dragon clan, is sworn to protect humankind at all costs. For him, honor and duty always come first. When the clan dictates he take a human mate to sire a son, he falters, aware that for a human to birth a dragon-shifter she must die. Myst, the woman given into his care, is the most extraordinary he’s ever met, and though he can’t bear the thought of harming her he is bound by duty.
Myst loves her life in the human world, but Bastian has captured her heart in an instant of electric connection. But Bastian and his warriors are in the middle of a deadly battle with the Razorback dragon-shifters, intent on killing every Nightfury clan member—and the humans they protect—the fate of their world and ours hangs in the balance.
An extraordinary blend of action, fantasy, and steamy romance, Fury of Fire brings to life a dangerous new world intertwined with the survival of humanity, all while exploring the meaning of honor and the nature of true love.

Hurt and alone with nowhere to hide, she faces certain death when Lothair uses the trace energy she leaves in her wake to hunt her down. Now a guest of the Nightfury clan, Angela regains her strength as her rescuer, Rikar, the last living frost dragon, gradually breaks down her mistrust. Surrendering to her desire for Rikar, but still uncertain of her feelings, Angela goes against his wishes and agrees to be used as bait to lure Lothair into the open. As the battle commences, the true struggle comes from within: Will Angela return home to the life she loves, or forsake it all to be with Rikar?

I would take a Dragon Shifter camping just because I love dragons. If asked what my favorite shifter is, it is a dragon. Who wouldn't love them. Thanks for the post and giveaway.
ReplyDeleteWhile I love dragons and would want to take a Dragon Shifter camping any day of the week, he also keeps away the little bloodsuckers that I don't like having around me. Who wouldn't want to have a Dragon Shifter with them when camping? Thank you for the guest post and giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed book 1. Book 2 is out today (yay!) and I've already added it to my kindle!
ReplyDeleteI would take a dragon shifter camping for quick and easy s'mores. Set them up, place on rock ask my guy to do his thing, no not that thing! Lol, and presto instant dessert
ReplyDeleteI'm not a big fan of camping because of all the bugs, but I'm guessing any dragonshifter would discourage those! So no need for Deep Woods Off seems like a great reason to take a dragonshifter camping!
ReplyDeleteThose are all great reasons to take your favorite dragon shifter with you to the woods. Let's see, another one would be that your dragon could fly ahead and scout out the perfect campsite for you, then fly you there if there were any pesky obstacles between you and it.
ReplyDeleteGreat post. I really want to read this. It says US/Can but on the entry button it only says US. Is it open for Canada also??
ReplyDeleteexactly my question! i hope so!!
DeleteIts open to Canada. Jenn probably used the template from another giveaway when she created that one and forgot to change it =)
DeleteI did and it's been fixed now. Thanks for letting us know!
DeleteHe could make us a cozy fire to snuggle up beside and cook our dinner. ;)
ReplyDeleteThis was a great post! I just ordered both of these books this past weekend! Really looking forward to reading them. Good luck to everyone! :-)
ReplyDeleteFirst, I love Dragons. Second, what a great way to start the campfire.

He could light my campfire and keep me cozy all night long. Also he would keep the bears and mountain lions away.
ReplyDeletevsloboda(at)gmail(dot)com
A Dragon Shifter will be great to use as a diving board if there's a deep water source nearby!
ReplyDeleteWell, you won't have to worry about starting a fire to get cozy! ;D
ReplyDeleteI think a dragon shifter would be handy camping because he would be strong enough to carry lots of fire wood, and starting the fire wouldn't be a problem. He's also be comforting when it got dark and scary at night, no worries about anything attacking like bears, etc.

ReplyDeleteSounds like an interesting series.
ReplyDeleteBecause we could fly away whenever we wanted too!!!
I absolutely suck at making a fire. I not only lack the skill of making a fire but the patience as well. If I had a fire dragon with me, he could light the fire before I could even get the marshmallows out.
ReplyDeleteSo he can make a fire and scare off any creatures.
ReplyDeleteBecause he can keep me "warm" at night ;) why else? I am Team Shifter, of any kind, and dragon are powerful beasts...I like powerful beasts...just saying...thanks for the fun :)
ReplyDeleteWith a dragon shifter there'd be no problem lighting a camp fire.
ReplyDeleteHe could make a fire and cook dinner. Tore923@aol.com
ReplyDeleteHe could keep all of the bugs and critters away, plus I wouldn't have to worry about getting cold. Thanks so much for the awesome giveaway!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the fun post and giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI'd like a dragon shapeshifter to go camping w/ b/c then I wouldn't melt and lose my marshmellows. I figure he'd have a more "controlled" fire :)
He would be fun to roast marshmallows with and to snuggle with to keep warm.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway.
All great reason listed! Definitely to light my fire and to keep me warm!
ReplyDeleteI loved Bastian and Myst's story, Coreene, and after meeting Lothair and Angela, I can't wait to read their story.
ReplyDeleteIf you took a dragon camping, you wouldn't need a boat for waterskiing, lol.
Several reasons, it would be easy to start a fire, I could go for a ride in the nights sky, to keep away scary animals and I would be sheltered from rain :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great series. Camping with a dragon shifter would be fun. Easy to make a camp fire. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteJust started fury of Fire. And liking it so far.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway
~Angela
I d want him around to light the campire keep other dangerous critters away and Id love it if he blew a little fire and made me smores lol
ReplyDeleteCoreene, You are a new to me author, and so glad I found you here at Tynga's! I love dragon shifter books and these sound right up my alley. Hmm why bring one camping - to keep my fire lit literally and metaphorically ;).
ReplyDeletepams00
I want him to keep me warm wink wink lol
ReplyDeleteJust popping in to say HI, but I feel like I'm late to the party! LOL I love all your ideas about why you would take a Dragon-Shifter camping. So much fun! And a lot of them I didn't even think of! Now, I have more amunition while trying to convince my hubby to invite a D-S along. So. . .Thank you! :-D
ReplyDeleteBest,
Coreene
Great question - and it looks like a great series... Can't wait to check it out - I love dragons and I would so take a dragon shifter camping - always have fire!!
ReplyDeleteA dragon shifter would be awesome as a camping buddy. No wildlife would have a chance against the dragon and it could start the fire going! lol
ReplyDeleteFor roasting marshmallows and for snuggling in a sleeping bag made for two for those cold nights. :)
ReplyDeleteI would want to take a dragon-shifter camping so he could start a fire for me! Plus, I'm sure he'd be able to protect me from things that go "bump in the night."
ReplyDeleteHe/she would keep all the other animals away so you don't have to worry about bears or wolves, if you get lost hiking or whatever he/she would be able to find your way back to camp, and you would always be warm at night when temperatures plummet.
ReplyDeleteI would want to take a dragon-shifter camping so I would not have to walk pace to pace. I could ride on his back and we would fly. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for this wonderful giveaway!
