Happy Saturday to all!! Hope the week has treated everybody right.  Here are the latest of my acquisitions:

STS Apr 16

You can see what my thoughts on Alight by Scott Sigler and I've already finished Hexed and will be giving my thoughts on that very soon!

As for The City by Dean Koonts and Please Don't Tell My Mother I'm a Super Villain by Richard Roberts, I look forward to digging right into them.  They seem a bit different than my usual choices.

Unfortunately, my family had a some bad news recently.  My wife's father succumbed to Lou Gehrig's Disease (ALS) after a more than 20 year battle with the disease.  He had built a special relationship with our puppy and she was able to say "Goodbye" to him as he was taken from his home where he spent his final moments.  For any who wish to give to battle this disease, please, visit the MDA ALS Website.

So, tell me, what bits of brightness have you brought into your life to gladden a sorrowed heart?

  1. I'm so sorry to hear about your wife's father, I send my condolences. For me, books are the best solace - going back to an old favourite where you already know the story so it doesn't require much concentration but can still give you a little respite from the grief. I have a post on my blog about books that I would recommend to help through grieving if you want to take a look at that, but often in the initial period of grief you just need familiar things that are comforting to you.

Thanks for sharing your books...and for hosting here. The Dean Koontz book looks tempting.

  12. I'm sorry for your loss. We just took in a dog that belonged to a very good friend of ours that passed away. I'm glad your puppy had a chance to say goodbye because they need closure too.

  13. So sorry to hear of your loss. It seems we never really get familiar with these diseases until they strike our family members. I've learned a bit about colon cancer over the years as both my grandparents died from it. The oddest part was how quickly it seemed to come about. It's never easy to lose family. You have my deepest sympathies. And I'm practically in tears seeing the puppy sad! :(

Nice new reads though! Those are totally new to me! Hope you enjoy the remaining ones!

My STS will be up tomorrow, so stop by then if you can!

    Have a GREAT day!

My e-galley of Alight expired before I could finish it, so I'll have to get ahold of a copy of it now.

  17. I'm very sorry to hear about your father-in-law. It's good that the puppy was able to say goodbye, it's tough on pets to understand what's happening.

Dean Koontz is one of my favourite authors! I haven't read The City yet but I enjoy his other books, they're all very different but good reads (imo) :)
