Our first "When I'm not writing..." guest post of 2013 comes from Lori Sjoberg. Her debut paranormal romance, GRAVE INTENTIONS, has just been published by Kensington and we are delighted to be a part of her blog tour. Please join us in welcoming Lori to the blog today and make sure to check out the tour-wide giveaway at the end of Lori's post!
I love to travel when I’m not writing. The opportunity doesn’t present itself as often as I’d like, but when it does my bags are packed in record time.
The travel bug originally bit in 2005, when hubby and I went to the Bahamas for our honeymoon. Since we live in Florida, it wasn’t that far of a trip, but it sparked the desire to see just how many stamps we could get in our passports before they expired. Since then, we’ve traveled to eight countries, with another trip planned for later this year.
My favorite trips have been to the British Isles. When we’re there, we usually do the tour bus thing, mainly because the street signs along the countryside often like this:
Fun, eh?
Road signs aside, Ireland was absolutely gorgeous. We started our tour in downtown Dublin, swung south to Blarney Castle and the Ring of Kerry, and finished our tour in the west coast town of Galway. The highlight of the trip was a visit to the stunning Cliffs of Moher. Puffins nest along the cliff, and if you bring a strong pair of binoculars you can catch a glimpse of them flying near their nests.
Since the tour bus method worked so well in Ireland, we opted for the same mode of transportation when we traveled to Scotland. No worrying about directions, or having to remember to drive on the left. No stress about getting lost (I’m horrible with directions). And since I’m an Outlander geek, I just had to get my picture by the Fraser Clan Stone at Culloden.
By the time we reached England, we felt comfortable enough to venture out into the city on our own. They have a wonderful mass transit system that will get you pretty much anywhere you want to go. We used it to see Buckingham Palace, Kensington Park, Piccadilly Circus, Trafalgar Square, the Tower of London, etc. The best part about London is that you bump into a slice of history everywhere you turn!
So how about you? Where’s your favorite travel destination? Hot or cold? Mountains or beach? Sightseeing or adventure?

Here's the scoop on GRAVE INTENTIONS:
He’s handsome, reliable, and punctual—the perfect gentleman when you want him to be. But this dream man is Death’s best agent—and now he’s got more than his soul to lose…
One act of mercy before dying was all it took to turn soldier David Anderson into a reaper—an immortal who guides souls-of-untimely-death into the afterlife. But the closer he gets to atoning for his mortal sin and finally escaping merciless Fate, the more he feels his own humanity slipping away for good. Until he encounters Sarah Griffith. This skeptical scientist can’t be influenced by his powers—even though she has an unsuspected talent for sensing the dead. And her honesty and irreverent sense of humor reignite his reason for living—and a passion he can’t afford to feel. Now Fate has summoned David to make a devastating last harvest. And he’ll break every hellishly-strict netherworld rule to save Sarah…and gamble on a choice even an immortal can’t win.

This sounds like a Grim Reaper story and I'm interested!!!
ReplyDeleteIreland sounds amazing and I want my picture with the Clan Fraser stone, too! For me, Paris was the best. Going as a middle aged woman instead of as an American girl wasn't as sexy, but the city is glorious.
ReplyDeleteLoved Grave Intentions, too!
Wow, that's awesome! I'd love to visit the British Isles as well. I'm very jealous.
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous Lori, visiting Great Britain is my dream trip. I've been told that a tour is the way to go, especially since I'd be going by myself. From your post, it sounds like that's true.
ReplyDeleteI've been waiting for this book to release...love reaper stories! :) And I was thrilled to read all about what Lori does when she's NOT writing. I hope to one day travel to Britain as well. My favorite vacations involve mountains and/or open spaces to roam. :)
ReplyDeleteThis sounds really good. My favorite travel destination would be either Belize or China. LOved both of them.
ReplyDeleteI want to read this. I love Reaper stories. Other than reading, traveling is my favorite thing to do and I'm lucky enough to have been all over the world. My favorite all around place to go though is The Big Island of Hawaii.
