Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…
Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarre connection. I’ve sworn him off even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But against all common sense, I’m falling for him. Hard.
Our relationship issues aren’t out biggest problem…
The Department of Defense is here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we’re linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And when a new boy shows up a school with a secret of his own, things get complicated fast. I need to choose between my own instincts and Daemon’s.
But then everything changes…
I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. Daemon’s never going to stop searching until gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?
No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies.
I didn’t think that Jennifer L. Armentrout could become anymore clever, but this book proved me wrong! Armentrout truly has a gift for writing that will inevitably leave a reader begging for more. ONYX is a book that will not disappoint.
As the Lux series continues, Katy becomes an even stronger heroine. I didn’t even know that was possible, but she draws on more inner strength and perseverance than ever before in this novel. Her stubbornness is still in full swing and she’s so focused on her newfound mission that she tended to avoid the obvious—hello, if somebody flings a knife at your head for any reason, you do not take that lightly—but she’s more lovable than ever.
A great portion of this book is spent with Katy and Daemon arguing about Daemon’s feelings. Katy simply cannot grasp the fact that Daemon feels strongly for her because he did so much to push her away in OBSIDIAN. Knowing that he did it because of what happened to Dawson didn’t seem to sway her opinion at all. Thus, the novel is full of Daemon trying to prove himself to Katy while fighting his ever-present jealousy issues. With even more steamier moments shared between the two, yet another exploding computer, and a new kid that dares to get in the way of their budding relationship, ONYX is full of emotional plot twists that will keep you flipping pages.
I’m happy to report that the supposed love triangle is nearly nonexistent. While Katy gravitates towards the possibility of normal, we all know that nobody can truly compete with our boy Daemon, making me incredibly thankful that this is not one of those series that is ruined by a love-triangle gone wrong.
With an ending that’ll leave you in complete and utter shock while managing to satisfy you all at once, ONYX is a read that cannot be missed. This series never ceases to amaze me as it finds new ways to shock me and keep me flipping the pages while I get on my hands and knees to beg for more. The sheer awesomness of it all cannot be put into words, hence this shorter review. Armentrout will make you feel a wild range of emotions as she continues to take your breath away with another amazing book. I am eagerly anticipating the release of OPAL to see what else JLA has in store for us.
