A Christmas With…. Theresa Meyers

Xmas2_thumb1_thumb

Theresa Meyers released the first book in her new The Legend Chronicles series, The Hunter, just last month and she generously accepted to stop by and tell us more about it!

---------------------

1- In The Hunter, the three brothers are called Winchester, Remington and Colt, which I think is sheer genius. How did you come up with that idea?

Wow, thanks! Actually, that's just how the idea came to me. I knew they were three brothers, with an infamous outlaw father, and they were named after their father's favorite guns. I knew they were in the old west and that their last name was Jackson, because their father had chosen it when he came to America and wanted a new identity and was literally "Jack's son". There's actually a lot more to the family over in Europe that we may or may not get to at some point.

2- The Hunter is the first book in a new series, how hard is it for you that create a whole new world?

Creating a new world is the fun part for me. It takes time to keep track of it all, knowing what supernatural creatures have which abilities and weaknesses, or what ammo a Hunter needs to kill them, but I really enjoy world building. It where my imagination gets to come out and play. And since the book kind of unfolds like a movie in my head while I'm writing, I like to get very detailed in how I describe a new world so the reader can experience it in the same way I do.

3- If you had to pick a theme song for the book, what would it be?

Funny you should ask, for each book I create a playlist I use while I'm writing on the book. For The Hunter the first song on the playlist (which was kind of the anthem) was TNT by AC/DC. I mean, really, how can you pass up a song that starts out "See me ride out of the sunset on your color TV screen. Out for all that I can get, if you know what I mean. Women to the left of me. Women to the right. Ain't got no gun. Ain't got no knife. Don't you start no fight. Cause I'm TNT. I'm dynamite. TNT. And I'll win that fight." It was just so Colt.

4- How many books are planned in the series, and when can we expect the next one?

Right now there are just the three brothers books that are for certain. But I have ideas for several more depending on what happens with the first three. The oldest brother, Winchester, will be the next book out, The Slayer, in April 2012. Remington's book is scheduled for early 2013 release and there's a good chance in between I'll work on a novella for their inventor friend Marley Turlock.

Now onto some Christmas-y questions:

5- What's your favorite Christmas song?

Well, technically I don't know if it's a Christmas song, but every year when I was little my mother, grandmother and I would go see the Nutcracker. Every time I hear the Dance of the Sugarplum Fairies it makes me think of Christmas.

6- What is Christmas like in The Hunter's demon dimension?

Good question. Hunters don't really get holidays. Family is something that sticks close together, and you might share a drink around the campfire or sing a Christmas song their mom sang to them when they were young, but these are guys who've seen and done a lot. They're not the kind for wrapping up gifts, or picking out gifts for that matter. It's more of that macho, you should know I care about you, thing. As for demons, well, they don't either. It's not like you are going to celebrate the birthday of your arch enemy, are you?

7- What could we offer Colt for Christmas, other than bullets *snickers*

Gun oil? LOL. Actually the man could use a new Stetson or another pair of boots. Can never have tooTheresa at Christmas age 6 (2) many of the basics when you are living on the frontier. He has told me he's mighty partial to shortbread, like his mother use to make, with strong coffee spiked with a shot of whiskey and sugar.

8- If you could wish for anything for Christmas, what would it be?

I'd wish that my mother could be here with my kids. Get to see them on Christmas morning, just once. She's missed their growing up since she passed away from breast cancer in her early 50's while they were still in diapers. No matter how many years pass, during the holidays you still miss the people who meant a great deal to you. I would have loved for my kids to get to know her and I miss her. She absolutely adored cowboys (as evidenced by the outfit she sewed for me one Christmas in my picture). She was a huge book lover, and it's because of her I learned how to work with my dyslexia to read and write. I think she would have really enjoyed these stories.

If it got you curious, here’s a bit more about The Hunter

They're the Chosen—Winchester, Remington and Colt—brothers trained to hunt down supernatural beings using the latest steam-powered gadgetry. It's a hard legacy to shoulder, and it's about to get a lot more dangerous. . .

A Devil Of A Job

Colt Jackson has gotten his name on many a wanted poster with success in the family business: hunting supernaturals across the frontier. Lately, though, there's a sulfur stink in the wind and the Darkin population is exploding. A rift in the worlds is appearing. To close it, Colt will have to do the unthinkable and work with a demon to pass arcane boundaries no human alone can cross.

Except when he summons his demon, he doesn't get some horned monstrosity: he gets a curvy redheaded succubus named Lilly, who's willing to make a bargain to become human again. He also gets Lilly's secret expertise on the machinations on the dark side of the rift. And her charm and cleverness help to get them out of what his silver-loaded pistol and mechanical horse can't. Of course, when all hell breaks loose, he might have to sacrifice his soul. But what's adventure without a little risk?

photoRaised by a bibliophile who made the dining room into a library, Theresa has always been a lover of books and stories. First a writer for newspapers, then for national magazines, she started her first novel in high school, eventually enrolling in a Writer's Digest course and putting the book under the bed until she joined Romance Writers of America in 1993. In 2005 she was selected as one of eleven finalists for the American Title II contest, the American Idol of books. She is married to the first man she ever went on a real date with (to their high school prom), who she knew was hero material when he suffered through having to let her parents drive, and her brother sit between them in the backseat of the car. They currently live in a Victorian house on a mini farm in the Pacific Northwest with their two children, three cats, an old chestnut Arabian gelding, an energetic mini-Aussie shepherd puppy, several rabbits, a dozen chickens and an out-of-control herb garden. 9. Cowboys and steampunk; great combination!

And what a cute photo. My sister and I used to play Cowboys and Indians with the boys next door. Okay, I think we all ended up being cowboys, and two of us were girls, but that picture reminded me of that.
