A Christmas With… Leigh Fallon

Xmas2_thumb1_thumb

I’m super happy to welcome Leigh Fallon, debut author to the blog today! Her first novel, Carrier of the Mark was release on October 4th! Make sure you read on to discover more about the book and its sequels =)

---------------------

1- Carrier of the Mark, your debut novel, was a hit in many countries around the world. Was it a surprise for you?

Yes! Carrier was the first book I'd ever written. Yes once I'd finished I had notions of wanting to get it published, but didn't really know where to start, or if it would ever really happen. One year later it had been bought by publishers in ten countries. It was such an amazing feeling, it still is.

2- Dawns of Knight & Age of the Fifth are the titles for the following books in the Carrier series, how hard is it for you to choose your book's title?

Dawn of the Knights (Carrier 2) and Age of the Fifth (Carrier 3) are actually just working titles. When I wrote Carrier, I knew it was going to be a trilogy, it was just the way the story plotted out. The story is very clear in my head, it always had been, so those titles were easy for me as they encompass their section of the story. Though with the success of Carrier, and the fact that we call call it 'Carrier' we are looking now at titles that carry 'Carrier' through each of the books, to make them tie into each other. It makes sense, and it's so exciting coming up with new names! Plus, I'll be able to surprise you all. Yay!

Landon Liboiron Photo3- If you had to pick songs to represent each of your main characters, what would it be?

Rian - Touched by Vast
Megan - The Violent Blue by Electric President
Adam - Weird Fishes by Radiohead
Aine - Neopolitan Dream by Lisa Mitchell
Fionn - Wait for me by Moby

4- If your book was turned into a movie, which actors would you pick to play your characters?

Áine – I’m thinking Elizabeth Gillies. She has a striking face, and such beautiful strong eyes. I think she’d make a great Áine.
Adam – How about Landon Liboiron? He is absolutely gorgeous, but there is a certain depth and soul to him. And I think he’d make a great a believable twin for Elizabeth Gillies.
Rían – I was looking for dark broodiness in an actor to take on Rían’s role, and I think Shiloh Fernandez has that whole broody bad boy vibe when he gazes into the camera. I think he could definitely pull of Rían.
Caitlin – Saoirse Ronan. She sprung to mind immediately. She’s naturally beautiful and oozes a genuine warmth and infectious friendliness, just like Caitlin in Carrier. And bonus, she’s Irish!
Killian – He’s all warm and fun loving, sort of puppy dog like. I think Jason Dolley would work fantastic in this role.
Darren – Michael Musso. He has that playful, boy next door thing going on. Good looking, but only young guys savvy, if you know what I mean. I think he’d be perfect.
Fionn - Christian Bale. Oh, he'd make a beautiful Fionn. *sigh*
Megan – I think of all of the roles to fill, hers might be the most difficult. I have this very clear image in my mind of who she should be, and I’ve been finding it difficult to see her in other actresses. I think Emma Roberts might come close, so if I had to pick someone now, I’d go for her.

Now onto some Christmas-y questions!

5- What's your favorite Christmas song?

I know it's not strictly a Christmas song, but I always associated this song with Christmas and brings tears to my eyes. We all stand together (aka The Frog Song) by Paul McCartney.

leighxmas20106- What is Christmas like in Megan's world?

It's cold. Short days and long evenings. Late nights with lots of parties. Two weeks off school to party and celebrate with the family. Megan just has her dad, so them two of them celebrate quietly spending time together watching old movies and attempting to eat the giant turkey that Megan's dad attempted to cook, but burned beyond recognition, but neither of them will admit that it's just pure awful. Megan will be spend most of the holidays curled up in front of a crackling log fire snuggled into Adam's arms.

7- What could we offer Adam for Christmas?

A bedroom makeover. His room decor sucks.

8- If you could wish for anything for Christmas, what would it be?

World Peace *flutters eyelashes & flashes sparkling white teeth*
Actually no, it would be something really selfish like...umm, a title, like 'International Bestselling Author'. Oooh yeah, I like that sound of that.

If it got you curious, here’s a bit more about Carrier of the Mark

From the moment she sets foot at her new school in Ireland, Megan is inexplicably drawn to the darkly handsome Adam DeRis. But Megan soon discovers that her feelings for Adam are tied to a supernatural fate that was sealed long ago—and that the passion and power that unites them could be their ultimate destruction.
This electrifying debut novel was first discovered on inkpop.com. the online community for aspiring writers. THE CARRIER OF THE MARK sizzles with unbridled romance, a unique supernatural hook, and a breathtaking Irish setting, and will entice fans of the Need series by Carrie Jones and the House of Night series by P. C. and Kristin Cast.

Leigh Fallon“I started out life in South Africa. A year later my parents moved home to Dublin, Ireland. When I was older and realized my parents had moved me from exotic Durban, to sedate Rathfarnham, Dublin 16, I was rightly ticked off. I fantasized about the amazing life I could have had in South Africa, and that fantastic accent that could have been all mine.

Instead, I got myself a fine Irish brogue growing up in the foothills of the Dublin Mountains where I went to a convent school and had to contend with uniforms, gabardines, and nuns.

During college I met a dashing sailor who swept me off my feet, all the way to Cork in the south of Ireland. I worked in corporate treasury and traveled Europe doing all sorts of fun finance stuff.

When I had my children I decided to take a career break, and soon discovered a love of writing. That career break became a career change when I wrote my debut novel, Carrier of the Mark.

I posted Carrier of the Mark on a HarperCollins website called inkpop. Within weeks it was voted into the top five books of thousands on the site, and was reviewed by a HarperTeen editor. Two months later that same editor offered me my first publishing contract.”

  55. Yes, Leigh, South African accents are cool, but so are Irish accents! Try having a bland Midwestern accent and see how you long for your Irish one!
