A Christmas With… Jaye Wells

Xmas2_thumb1_thumb

I’m very happy to have Jaye Wells by my side today, to celebrate the release of the fourth book in the Sabina Kane series, Silver-Tongued Devil! Please welcome her warmly =)

---------------------

1- Sabina Kane is like no other character I ever encountered, how did you first decide that she would be half-mage and half-vampire?

I knew she was definitely going to be a vampire from the minute she first appeared in my head. But once I started getting to know her and her world, I realized that being of two warring races would  provide a lot of juicy conflict and directions for her story. I also liked the idea of pitting vampires against something besides werewolves for a change. I chose mages because I loved the idea of pitting physically strong beings (vampires) against those who used magical weapons. Plus there's so much great mythology and symbolism that goes with magic that I couldn't resist.

2- Poor Sabina is always in trouble and Silver-Tongued Devil doesn't seem anymore peaceful, how does she keep up?

Oh you can bet there won't be a lot of peace for Sabina for a while yet. ;) She gets by like we all do--with a little help from her friends. It's just Sabina's friends happen to be demons, mages, vBlue-Blooded Vamp (Sabina Kane, #5)ampires and faeries. Plus, I think when it comes down to it she's just a fighter. She'll either win or die trying--there's no middle ground for her.

3- The relationship between Adam and her isn't always smooth, did you ever get fan comments about it?

Not yet, but I expect I will after SILVER-TONGUED DEVIL comes out. ;)

4- Blue-Blooded Vamp is the fifth book in the series, how many more books will there be?

BLUE-BLOODED VAMP will be the final book in the series.  When I set out to write Sabina's story I thought it would only be three books. It ended up taking five to get the entire story out and give her the ending I felt she deserved. It'll be sad when it's all over but I am very happy I had a chance to do her story justice. I hope the fans agree when that books comes out in June.

Now onto some Xmas-y questions:

5- How did your family celebrate Christmas when you were a kid?

I have a rather large extended family, so Christmas is and was always a big deal. On Christmas Day, we always do Mexican food feast. Everyone pitches in and the kitchen is always crowded and loud as we cook and laugh and eat our way through the day. The only thing that's different now from when I was a kid is I get to drink the sangria.

6- What's your best Christmas memory?

When Mr. Jaye and I were dating--our first Christmas as a couple--he'd gone home to visit him family in North Carolina and stayed to celebrate with my family. I missed him terribly. The day after Christmas he called me and while we chatted someone knocked on my door. He'd flown back early to surprise me. I guess he missed me pretty badly, too. We were engaged a month later.

7- Is there one gift you receive that really stuck to your memory?

I found out I was pregnant with Spawn (my precocious now-nine-year-old) on Christmas Eve 2001. Best gift ever.

8- What would a typical Christmas be like for Sabina?

Well, vampires don't really celebrate Christian holidays, so she's unlikely to give it much thought. Now that she's with Adam and has embraced her mage side, she'd probably participate the Winter Solstice celebrations at the mage estate, though. I'd imagine lots of inappropriate jokes about Yule logs would also be involved.

If it got you curious, here’s a bit more about Silver-Tongued Devil

Life is looking up for Sabina Kane. Now that her scheming grandmother is dead, the threat of war has passed and the rulers of the dark races are about to sign a treaty to ensure ongoing peace. Her relationship with sexy mage Adam Lazarus is strong and all her friends are around her. Even her magic training is progressing further than she ever expected. The only two dark spots in her otherwise settled life are her guilt over her sister Maisie's fragile mental state and Sabina's own sinking sense that she's got unfinished business with Cain, the mysterious cult leader she let get away months earlier. When a string of murders rock the New York dark races community and threatens to stall the peace negotiations, Sabina finds herself helping to find the killer. Her investigation leads her down troubling paths that have her questioning everything - and everyone - she knows. And the closer she gets to the murderer, the more Sabina realises this is one foe she may not able to kill.

  26. Grr, Rafflecopter definitely hates me. No boxes are coming up when I try to complete entries (I'm a GFC follower!).

I've seen this series around but haven't picked it up, though I've been interested by it.

Wonder if Jaye is surprised by the huge number of redheads popping up on so many UF/Sci-Fi covers lately!
