A Christmas With… Eric S Moore

Xmas2_thumb1_thumb

I’m very happy to have E.S. Moore with me today to celebrate the upcoming release of his first novel, To Walk The Night (January 3rd, 2012)! Make sure to read along to discover more about the characters, Eric’s Xmas habits and a giveaway!

---------------------

1- To Walk The Night is your first novel, how did you live this journey so far?

A:  It's been pretty crazy.  At times I get a little overwhelmed because I want to do everything right and end up trying to do too much at once.  It was a total shock to me when the book was picked up by Kensington.  While I've always aimed high, I kept expectations low so I wouldn't be devastated if things didn't work out.  I just hope everyone loves the series and I get to keep on doing what I love to do most.  This has always been my dream.

2- If you had to pick three words to describe each of your main characters, what would it be?

A:  Yikes.  This is actually a tough one for me.  I always have trouble coming up with words to describe, well, anything!  But I'll give it a try!

Kat is driven, strong, but lonely.  Ethan is nerdy, shy, and friendly.  Jonathan is a leader, and he's calm and, like Kat, driven.  There are other characters, but doing it for these three was hard enough!  I won't even try with the others.

3- I absolutely love the cover, kind of reminds me of Underworld, did you have any say in the process?

A: Some, yes.  Aside from the basics, (eye color, hair color, what her weapons looked like, etc) I was asked if there was a movie poster or something that I'd like the artist to use as a base for the cover.  I found an Underworld poster that really evoked the imagery I wanted.  I think he did a great job with it.

4- What are the top three reasons readers should pick up To Walk The Night? (time to shamelessly brag ^^)

A:  Because I said so?  No?  Well, perhaps because it is a quick, hopefully exciting read.  The series, in my oh-so-humble opinion, only gets better as it goes on and you have to start here!  And really, I think the book is something that anyone who likes urban fantasy can enjoy.  What other reasons do you need?

Now onto some Xmas-y questions:

5- What's a typical Christmas like in the Moore family?

A:  These days it's all about The Child.  We've just started having the grandparents come to our place, rather than us to theirs, since it is easier on the little guy.  He just wants to play with his new toys and sitting in a car just wouldn't cut it.  We get up, have a private little Christmas, then everyone else comes over.  It's pretty casual.

6- What's your best Christmas memory?

A:  The 2010 Christmas when The Child opened his gifts.  It was the first year he started to understand what was going on.  I can hardly remember Christmas as a kid since I seemed to always be sick, so it was nice to be able to watch someone else truly enjoy opening their gifts.

7- What would Kat wish for for Christmas?

A:  Probably more weapons!  That is, if she even acknowledges it at all.  She's had such a hard life and lost so much, she finds it hard to enjoy Holiday's meant to be shared with family and friends.

8- Any Christmas wishes for our readers?

A:  Absolutely!  I hope everyone has a great Holiday season.  It doesn't matter what you believe in or who you are, this is a time to enjoy being together with family and friends.  Make the most of it!  Have a great Christmas!

If it got you curious, here’s a bit more about To Walk the Night

Even a vampire has to face her inner demons…

Kat Redding is the very thing she hunts: a vampire, thirsting for blood, capable of killing any creature unlucky enough to get in her path. The difference is, Kat kills her own kind in order to protect human Purebloods. She’s good at what she does. Good enough to earn the nickname Lady Death—and the enmity of every bloodthirsty being around. But now a vampire Count is intent on merging his House with a werewolf cult to create a force of terrifying power.

Kat can’t allow that to happen. Even if it means taking on a den of weres and a vampire more ruthless than any she’s encountered before. She has the weapons, the skill, and a few allies. But that may not be enough to eliminate the Count before her own dark nature rises to the surface—and costs her whatever is left of her humanity…

  8. Great interview! thanks for sharing. I remember the first Christmas my little one finally realized what all the fuss was about! It's very cool to see the light bulb go on when our children finally realize the true meaning of events so important such as Christmas, Easter, etc.!

  9. Cute interview. That's so neat that the cover artist listened to what Eric wanted. You hear so many horror stories about the cover not matching up with the stories whatsoever, so it's refreshing to see the opposite happening. And yup, definitely an awesome cover!

    Smiles!
