They’ll never see her coming. . . .
When Evangeline Stone wakes up naked and bruised on a cold slab at the morgue—in a stranger’s body, with no memory of who she is and how she got there—her troubles are only just beginning. Before that night she and the two other members of her Triad were the city’s star bounty hunters, mercilessly cleansing the city of the murderous creatures living in the shadows, from vampires to shape-shifters to trolls. Then something terrible happened that not only cost all three of them their lives but also convinced the city’s other Hunters that Evy was a traitor—and she can’t even remember what it was.

Now she’s a fugitive, piecing together her memory, trying to deal some serious justice—and discovering that she has only three days to solve her own murder before the reincarnation spell wears off. Because in three days Evy will die again—but this time there’s no second chance. . .

Living in your own skin is usually hard enough as it is, but Evangeline Stone has to deal with living in someone’s else skin since she awoke from the dead in the body of a girl who committed suicide. The weirdest thing, aside from the obvious, is that she doesn’t remember dying. With the help of her boss, she will try to get her memory back, bring justice for her own death and maybe save the world while she’s at it. All of it in less than 72 hours because she’s three days to dead… again.

Before I get down the the review itself, I just want to highlight how appropriate and fitting this book’s titles is. Too often you just can’t figure out what the title is all about, but in this case, it’s morbidly perfect. After being resurrected, Evy only have three days before she is once again deceased. Talk about a mood breaker!

Three Days to Dead is Kelly’s first book and even though I’ve read other books from her before, I was surprised by how good it was. It really doesn’t read like a debut novel and the plot was very intricate. It really shows that Meding paid attention to details and it was definitely worth it. As Evy investigates her death, weird encounters and mysteries starts piling up and while the story is easy to follow, most details won’t make sense until Kelly spells it out for us. Well at least, I didn’t figure it out by myself hehe. No body is who they seem, and the simplest explanation is always the wrong one. I really liked to be challenged that way and it really brings the novel to an higher standard.

The characters were delightful! Evy herself is edgy and tough and the things she faces, on top of her own death countdown hanging over her head, would’ve sent many in a psych ward. I loved how Evy’s personality clashed but also blended at times with the previous body’s host. Wyatt, Evy’s boss, also earned my love. He isn’t perfect – far from it- but he tries so hard to do the right thing and the not-really-romance between him and Evy really broke my heart. This pair is just amazing! Speaking of amazing, Kelly also included a plethora of Lore characters, all awesome and disturbing. From Trolls to Gargoyles, Fey, Goblins and your traditional Vampires and Shapeshifters, everyone is bound to find something they like!

Action-packed and full of suspense, the end really got me breathless. I shed a few tears and I was really anxious to finally know how everything would wrap-up. I honestly think Kelly Meding did a rocking job when she tied all the plot’s thread together, keeping us in the dark for so long.

Urban Fantasy fans will fall head over heels for this original series, so I strongly suggest you give it a try! Personally, I can’t wait to get my hands on the second installment, As Lie the Dead. Good thing it’s already released!
