PAF: Guest post by Jenn Bennett + giveaway!

Paranormal April Fools

I’m so excited that Jenn Bennett is visiting the blog today. Her Arcadia Bell books are absolutely delicious: they have witty characters, interesting magic, and great plots, plus they feature the only moustached hero in the genre (at least as far as I can figure).

Jenn's offering up something really exciting in her guest post and I'm sure you'll enjoy it. And remember to stick around to learn all about SUMMONING THE NIGHT, her upcoming release, and have three chances to win a copy of your very own!

---------------------------------

Jupiter Butler's April Fools' Sketches

Jupiter, aka Jupe, is a 13-year-old Earthbound demon, the teenage son of my hero, Lon. Now, if you're familiar with Jupe, you can probably imagine that he takes pranking veeeerrrry seriously. And his father is so tight-lipped and grunty, he's the perfect target. But there's an art to pulling a good prank without getting grounded. So Jupe needs your help choosing the perfect April Fools' Day gag. Take a look at Jupe's three sketches below and include your pick for the best prank in the comments for a chance to win one of three copies of book 2 in the Arcadia Bell series, SUMMONING THE NIGHT.

Want more Jupe? Then you should check out SUMMONING THE NIGHT, which hits bookshelves on April 24:

Jenn Bennett Summoning the Night Magick. Murder. Mayhem. It’s all in a night’s work...

After narrowly escaping her fate as a sacrificial scapegoat, Arcadia Bell is back to normal. Or at least as ordinary as life can be for a renegade magician and owner of a tiki bar that caters to Earthbound demons. She’s gearing up for the busiest day of the year—Halloween—when a vengeful kidnapper paralyzes the community. The influential head of the local Hellfire Club taps Cady to track down the fiendish bogeyman, and now that she’s dating red-hot Lon Butler, the Club’s wayward son, she can hardly say no.

Cady and Lon untangle a gruesome thirty-year trail of clues that points to danger for the club members’ children. But locating the person behind the terror will require some metaphysical help from Cady’s loyal bar patrons as well as her potent new Moonchild powers—and she’d better figure it out before the final victim disappears and her own darkest secret becomes her biggest enemy.

  1. I have Kindling Moon in my backpack to start reading at lunch time!

I've heard of all the pranks. I would go with the alarm clock because it's the only one that doesn't make a mess or possibly hurt someone.

  2. I cannot wait for this book. Love the alarm clock prank. smiles...

  4. LOL, I would have to go with the toilet one - too funny! Love that Jupe!

    ReplyDelete
  5. Honestly I'm a bucket fan, but Jupe would just have to clean that one up too, so I'm going with the alarm clock.

  6. This is definitely one of my anticipated reads. Loved Kindling the Moon!

Favorite prank - toliet seat and plastic wrap. The mess is worth it! ;)

  7. I hate it when the alarm clock in a hotel room is set to the middle of the night! Very mean, especially when it's really loud and set on the buzzer and not the radio. But it's the cleanest prank in the list so I would have to go with that one. Less cleanup for Jupe.

  8. All three pranks sound hilarious, but the alarm clock one would definitely be my pick.

  9. I'd go for the alarm clock prank. The toilet one is just gross and yeah, don't want to have to clean that up. And the bucket, again there is clean up.

  10. Awesome post! I love Ms. Bennett's first book and I can't *wait* for this next book!

I'd go for the alarm clock. Less mess and maybe less trouble lol :)

  11. Those are too funny. I'd go with the plastic wrap since cleaning up that mess would be nothing new to a woman who has lived with all males for the past 23 years. Doesn't matter how old they are they still can't control the back splash.
Though I loved the alarm clock :). No mess to clean up.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I advise the alarm clock prank... less potential mess-cleaning! :)

  13. The toilet wrap is so funny :)

  14. I would go with the bucket, but instead of Chum, Pudding, or pigs blood. I would go with oatmeal. Inexpensive and a little goes a long way...

    ReplyDelete
  15. I too love the alarm clock. I'm doing it this year, but it's going off at 6AM.... that way when they come to yell at me- I'll okay with being awoken. :P Loving the pictures though.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I vote for the toilet wrap! What a hoot! Love the illustrations! Thanks for the awesome giveaway.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Lmao at all the pranks and pro/cons!
I say if you're gonna prank, go big or don't bother. So I vote for the bucket over the door, but tame it by using the goopy pudding, so it's not too gross. ;)
By the way, will we get to read about this prank? I can't get enough of this trio!

  18. I'd choose the alarm clock Switch-a-Roo and hope they weren't having sex when it went off. :D There wouldn't be anything gross to clean up and he might be able to convince Dad that he didn't have anything to do with it.

    ReplyDelete
  19. All the pranks are hilarious but, the toilet wrap is classic! Thanks for hosting this kick ass giveaway!

  20. Alarm clock switch a roo!!! Though they're all funny.

  21. The alarm clock isn't done as much, but I bet the biggest surprise is the toilet one. Still, I'd pick the alarm clock. LOL

  22. Lol, I love the toilet seat one. It's gross, but it's hilarious.

  28. Hi Jupe, I advise you to stick with the alarm clock prank. That way no one gets hurt or dirty, and you don't have to clean up the mess.

The books sound good, and are already on my wishlist. I really wish I had the time to read everything I want to. But, well, fulltime job is in the way of that.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Definitely the toliet wrap!

    ReplyDelete
  30. After much consideration - alarm clock could wake entire household, there fore causing personal discomfort. Cleaning up toilet spill would be gross. The bucket would mean just moping up clean water -- so I go with the bucket.

    ReplyDelete
  31. #3 the toilet wrap is the best one. LOL So glad I don't have kids!
Thank you for this generous giveaway chance!
This looks like such a great read!

  32. I sem to be with the majority. I would go with the alarm clock Prank. The others are too messy.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I think I would go with the Alarm Clock Switch-a-roo probably because it it involves less clean up.

  34. Hello lovely readers, new and old! Thanks for all these great comments! Looks like so far the alarm clock prank is taking the lead, with the toilet seat prank coming in at a close second. But there's two weeks left on the contest, so anything could happen. Surely someone will pick the bucket of chum?!

@mmph: Not sure when you'll get to read about Jupe's prank, but I can tell you that beyond April's release of SUMMONING THE NIGHT, December 25th will bring an AWESOME novella starring Cady, Lon, Jupe and Kar Yee. It will be funny and scary, and only $1.99: the perfect holiday treat to whet your appetite between books 2 and 3!

@Victoria: Your comment about men peeing on the toilet made me laugh out loud. True!

    @Jael: Bucket of oatmeal . . . that's a good one! You've done this before, haven't you? ;)

Six copies of the book are up for grabs, but three of those are coming directly from me, and they will be signed. And if you've commented here and you're one of the winners of the signed copies, I'll try to throw in the original Jupe drawing with your prank choice. In twenty years, you can take the drawing to Antique Roadshow and find out that it's worth $10,000! (Okay, maybe not, but you never know!)

  35. Hi Jenn, I told my boyfriend about your pranks, and he actually has done the toilet prank. When he was in the army. His advise is to put the wrap beneath the toilet seat, so if the man lifts it, he still has no clue, and to unscrew the lightbulb.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I think the alarm clock prank is going to work out the best for Jupe. :)

  37. Oh geeze the Alarm Clock! haha the kids are always messing with my clock so that one gave me a case of the snickers.

  50. pudding over the door, pigs blood I think would be a little hard to come by unless of course you are into slaughtering pigs. and fish just too gross and you'd also have to smell it. so I would go with the pudding. I also really want to read this book!

  58. Love these sketches! The bucket prank is a classic but does it ever work? The toilet prank is gross but effective. I painted a toilet seat in middle school once and was never caught. I was an extremely good kid but was cleaning paint rollers with my friend and we were impulsive and giggly. One thing led to another... It worked great too! :D

I can't wait to read this book. Thanks for the offer!!
